Manningham Council is seeking feedback from the community on its draft management plan for Ruffey Creek Linear Park, which is now on public exhibition until Monday 26 June.

Ruffey Creek Linear Park is an open space corridor linking Ruffey Lake Park in Doncaster to the Yarra River in Templestowe. For most of its three kilometre length, it offers a bushland experience for pedestrians and cyclists on an off-road shared path known as the Ruffey Trail.

The draft management plan has been prepared to guide future management and maintenance of the park, including works to complete missing links along the Ruffey Trail.

Some of the key recommendations proposed in the draft Ruffey Creek Linear Park Management Plan include:

  • Creating an off-road shared path for cyclists and pedestrians between Foote and Parker streets in Templestowe, including a possible bridge and boardwalk
  • Creating a shared path on Eumeralla Avenue between
  • St Georges Avenue and Nambour Road in Templestowe Lower
  • Creating a better link along Eumeralla Avenue by converting the section south of St Georges Avenue into a shared roadway for pedestrians, cyclists and cars
  • Providing trail head facilities including a shelter, seating, signage, drinking water, landscaping and parking at McLachlan Street in Templestowe
  • Improving park facilities and rest areas along the trail, including Kersey Place, Montpellier Crescent, Dellfield Drive and James Street
  • Introducing a requirement for dogs to be on-lead within five metres of the trail, once the missing links have been completed
  • Creating a new children’s playspace area at Montpellier Crescent in Templestowe Lower
  • Providing additional litter bins along the trail
  • Enhancing the existing road crossings along the trail to improve safety
  • Where possible providing a mowed section to act as a secondary path on the opposite side of the creek to the main trail.
