Committed to improving the municipality’s environmental sustainability, Manningham City Council is introducing an initiative that will see new recycle bins roll out across sporting grounds.

This month, Council will deliver more than 100 yellow-lidded recycle bins across Manningham’s sporting facilities, similar to those rolled out to homes in 2016.

Manningham Mayor Cr Michelle Kleinert said environmental sustainability is one of Council’s guiding principles, with this recycling initiative demonstrating its strong commitment to providing effective waste management services.

“These new bins will make recycling so much easier for local residents and visitors to Manningham’s sporting facilities,” Mayor Kleinert said.

“Manningham Council is delivering solutions for the collection, disposal and resource recovery of waste generated at our sporting facilities. Ensuring the environment is protected for generations to come is paramount,” she said.

The cardboard skips currently at sporting facilities will be removed in favour of the new bins, which will be clearly labelled with additional signage in clubs to also clarify which items can and cannot be recycled.

The recycle bins will accept items such as cardboard, empty aluminium or steel cans, glass bottles and jars, papers, envelopes, magazines, newspapers and cardboard boxes.

To celebrate the new initiative, there will be a halftime handball competition ‘with a difference’, as well as some great giveaways at Schramms Reserve on Saturday 27 May.

The initial consultation for this plan closes on Friday 2 June.
