Council has a commitiment to Youth Services and funds the YMCA Manningham to deliver a suite of services that support young people in Manningham.
YMCA Manningham Youth Services
YMCA Manningham Youth Services aims to provide generalist youth services for young people aged 12 - 25 years who live, work or study in the City of Manningham. They are located on the top floor at MC Square, 687 Doncaster Road, Doncaster, however the programs and events take place at venues all across Manningham. Manningham Young Leaders
Our Manningham Young Leaders are aged 15 - 21 years and work on community projects that enhance youth ‘voice’ and celebrate the diversity of young people in our local area. Our Young Leaders receive specific leadership training which includes public speaking, conflict resolution, and, civic engagement and participation amongst other key topics. The group also participates in a community development/aid project within Australia, annually.
Our Youth Mentoring Program operates within Manningham secondary schools and provides additional support to young people aged 12 - 18 years. Our mentors are sourced via partnerships that have been established with tertiary institutions and local Manningham businesses and organisations, with mentors undergoing a comprehensive training program before being matched with their mentee.
YMCA Manningham runs a safe-gaming program for young people aged 12 – 18 years, who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The program aims to provide a safe space for young people with ASD to come together and socialise, build upon valuable social skills and to share in their enjoyment of video games.
The Y-Exercise Program is designed to provide opportunities for young people aged 13 – 25 years living with disabilities to access physical exercise sessions and build upon valuable social skills in a safe, fun environment. These exercise classes take place weekly (during the school term) at Aquarena.
FReeZA Fusion Committee
The FReeZA Fusion Committee are a group of young people aged 15 – 21 years, who work with the youth services team to organise and host drug, alcohol and smoke free music events for young people in Manningham. The Fusion Committee receive training on event management, music industry skills and other key areas at the commencement of their 12-month term.
Our qualified team provide ongoing assistance to young people who engage with our service, where required. For those needing some additional 1 on 1 support, our dedicated Youth Support Coordinator provides a counselling service for 12 – 25 year olds and is available for outreach. Throughout the year, Manningham YMCA Youth Services provides partnership support to other local community organisations, in the delivery of key projects that enhance positive youth engagement and wellbeing.
