Manningham Council will celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) 2015 with an event featuring some of Melbourne’s most inspiring female leaders.

IWD is celebrated globally each year on 8 March and recognises the economic, political and social achievements of women of the past, present and future.

The theme of IWD 2015 is “Make It Happen” and calls for greater equality and a more inclusive society.

Thousands of IWD events will be held throughout the world to inspire women, and remind everyone of the inequities still to be redressed.

Manningham residents are invited to show their support for IWD and hear from women, who are making a positive difference with their work, including:

  • Sally Goldner - Executive Director of TransGender Victoria. Sally is the focus of an autobiographical documentary Sally’s Story, an awarded activist and one of the Age’s 2011 Top 100 most creative and influential people in Melbourne.
  • Saara Sabbagh - Founder and Chair of Benevolence Australia. Saara is a cross cultural educator, consultant and public speakeron Isslamic affairs.
  • Kate Gorman – Actor/Writer/Director. Kate’s documentary, The Face of Birth, is a compelling and thought provoking piece outlining the importance of education in birthing and the right of a woman to choose the best birth method for her and her baby.
