Manningham Council has developed a draft Domestic Animal Management Plan. The plan incorporates feedback from the community about the priorities for managing cats and dogs in Manningham.

The draft plan addresses issues and suggestions identified by the community, including:

  • Dogs off lead/not under owner control
  • Dog waste
  • Dogs barking
  • Wandering cats

The key objectives of the draft plan are to:

  • Promote responsible pet ownership and to protect the welfare of dogs and cats,
  • Protect the community and environment from inappropriate dog and cat behaviour, and
  • Provide information about Council's domestic animal management services.

Manningham Mayor, Cr Michelle Kleinert said that pets are a major part of life for many people in the community.

"There are almost 13,000 registered pet dogs and cats in Manningham. This draft plan will guide the management of domestic dogs and cats until 2025."

"We asked the communities about their priorities for animal management. Now we want to check back with the community before finalising the plan."

All Councils across Victoria need to develop a Domestic Animal Management Plan every four years. This is a requirement under the Domestic Animals Act 1994.

You can provide feedback on the plan until 12 April 2022. Review the draft plan at www.yoursaymanningham.com.au/DAMP.
