Manningham Council is encouraging local primary school students to get active this October and invites schools to register for VicHealth’s Walk to School month 2016.

Walk to School month encourages primary students across Victoria to walk, ride or scooter to and from school to kick-start healthy travel habits during October.

The VicHealth initiative complements Council’s Active Travel Program, which supports schools to encourage their students to get active on their commute to school, as a way to stay fit and healthy, while reducing traffic congestion around schools.

Nine Manningham schools have registered so far, and there is still time to get involved. Schools can register to participate by visiting www.walktoschool.vic.gov.au/schools

With the assistance of a grant from VicHealth, throughout October Council will support participating schools with a range of walk to school activities, healthy breakfast events, competitions and prizes.
