The beauty, ingenuity and resourcefulness of wood that shapes our world will be exhibited in two concurrent exhibitions at the Manningham Art Gallery from 18 October to 11 November.

The Double Take in Wood exhibition celebrates the works of beautifully crafted furniture and sculptures by members of the Victorian Woodworkers Association and shines a light on sustainable craft practices with pieces made entirely from recycled industrial packaging.

Manningham City Council Mayor Cr Michelle Kleinert said Double Take in Wood showcased the breadth and talent in Australian wood design.

“This exhibition of Australian contemporary woodwork has two distinct starting points, fine woodworking and Create from a Crate,” she said.

“The Create from a Crate section challenges woodworkers to make objects or pieces of furniture from discarded timber pallets and crates.”

Exhibiting concurrently is Undulating Scapes, a photographic exhibition by local photographer Sandhya Porritt that takes a look the world through macrophotography.

Undulating Scapes was a 12-month project where Sandhya photographed the same trees multiple times to capture subtle changes in the bark as the tree grew and adapted its environment.

The images explore twisting shapes and patterns that naturally form on tree barks and invite a novel reappraisal of our own relationship with the landscape.

Upcoming Public Programs at the exhibition include:
