Reflections: Where am I in this Community?

This year's National Reconciliation Week exhibition features the work of two emerging artists from regional Victoria, Taungurung photographer and designer Maddi Moser and artist-educator Troy Firebrace.

Moser's 'Reflections' is a collection of artworks that explores our personal connections in our lives and the many communities we exist in. It has evolved from a response to the different reactions people had to the disastrous bushfires, to a celebration of the community spirit that emerged to support those that were affected. The collection of artworks have further developed in response to the health crisis to show how our connections are not just to people but also to our environment, our land, Country. ‘Reflections’ look inwards to remind us that we can and will continue to thrive.

Firebrace's vivid designs are inspired by street art, the environment and experiences from his life and culture, and emerge from a process of introspection aimed at understanding both his individual and cultural identity. Informed also by his work as an Aboriginal educator working with schools and in the community, Firebrace's intention as an artist is to present a true reflection on canvas of his personal self in its entirety, all its complexity and uniqueness.

Our online exhibition

Originally rescheduled to open in July and August, Reflections: Where am I in this Community? is currently closed for the COVID-19 restriction period.
