Manningham Mayor, Cr Michelle Kleinert said that Council’s Advisory Committee members make important contributions to Manningham.
“We are looking for people who live, work or study in Manningham. Applicants should have lived experience, or relevant knowledge or skills relating to the committee that they are applying for.”
“Each of the members will represent the views of the community. The input that they provide helps to inform decision making and priority setting.”

Manningham Council is delighted to announce the appointment of 15 community members to its new Disability Advisory Committee.
The new committee will provide advice to Council on how to understand and respond to the needs of people with a lived experience of disability, and support the community to be accessible and inclusive for all Manningham residents.
Manningham Mayor, Cr Andrew Conlon said the new committee will have its first meeting next month and is part of Council’s commitment to supporting a more connected and inclusive community in Manningham.
“Council is committed to developing policies and initiatives through meaningful engagement with those with a lived experience of disability. Their collective voice and feedback are essential to an accessible and inclusive Manningham for all,” Cr Conlon said.
The appointment follows an expression of interest process to include members with a diverse, lived experience of disability. It will capture individual perspectives including from those with mental health issues, those who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, are blind or have low vision, have physical and intellectual disabilities, as well as those on the autism and ADHD spectrums.
Membership criteria were developed to maximise authentic representation and provide a voice for the many perspectives in the community. For example, committee membership will be compromised of 75 per cent of people with lived experience of disability, and the remaining 25 per cent as carers of a person with disability.
The appointed community members will serve as members of the new advisory committee through to 2024.
Manningham Council is committed to an inclusive and accessible community for all residents including those with disability, their families and carers.
The new Disability Advisory Committee supports the priority areas and actions contained in Manningham’s Council Plan 2017-2021 and Healthy City Strategy 2017-2021. These include: supporting an inclusive, diverse community; a community that values and embraces its diversity; and the delivery of a range of initiatives that increase the social and economic participation of residents living with disability.
Manningham Council has recently appointed a total of 32 new community representatives to four of its advisory committees to help guide Council in meeting community expectations in each of the committees’ subject areas.
The community representatives were officially appointed at the Council meeting on Tuesday 26 April and included:
The appointments were made following an expression of interest process for each of the committees earlier this year.
Each of the committees includes a mix of Council and community representatives and provides guidance on the committees’ specialty area.
The Access and Equity Advisory Committee advises Council on measures to ensure that disability, diversity and social inclusion issues are considered in developing and implementing Council’s strategic direction.
The Open Space and Streetscape Advisory Committee provides advice to Council on the design and development of Manningham’s public open spaces and streetscapes.
The Integrated Transport Advisory Committee provides an avenue for the community to influence improvements and enhancements of the transport network and accessibility throughout Manningham.
The Arts Advisory Committee will provide strategic advice on arts and cultural development in Manningham. It will also assist in promoting greater awareness and understanding of arts and culture in Manningham.
Manningham Council is offering people who live and play locally the exciting opportunity to provide advice on improving community recreation and sport.
Council is seeking expressions of interest for a new advisory panel, the Recreation and Sport Advisory Committee.
The new committee provides an opportunity for members to share their experiences to support sport and recreation outcomes, and deliver on actions from the Active for Life Recreation Strategy 2010-25.
The community, Councillors and senior Manningham Council officers will be represented on the committee, with the community undertaking an advisory role, rather than decision making responsibilities.
Manningham Mayor, Cr Michelle Kleinert said: “This is great chance to work alongside Council, share your experiences and provide broader input into how recreation and sport can improve our daily lives.
“Whether you enjoy a stroll through the park, a bike ride with the kids or footy on the weekend, we would love to hear from you.”
Online applications are now open via the Recreation and Sport Advisory Committee: Expression of Interest Form. Terms of Reference are also published on the Manningham Council website.
Hardcopy forms are available for collection upon request and anyone wishing to complete their application over the phone or learn more about the process can contact Manningham Council’s customer service team on 03) 9840 9333 or email: manningham@manningham.vic.gov.au

Manningham Council is calling on the community to provide their feedback on how Manningham can become a dementia-friendly city.
According to Alzheimer’s Australia VIC, there are currently 342,800 people in Australia with dementia, including over 25,000 with younger onset dementia. It is estimated that one person is diagnosed with dementia every six minutes.
In Victoria, there is an estimated 81,000 people living with dementia and this figure is expected to increase to almost 246,000 by 2050. Dementia is, in fact, the largest cause of disability in people over the age of 65 in Australia and currently there is no cure.
A dementia-friendly community is a place where people are aware of and understand dementia, and people with dementia feel included and involved and have choice and control over their day-to-day lives.
To help Manningham find ways to become a dementia-friendly city, residents are invited to participate in a community survey.
The survey is part of a pilot project through Alzheimer’s Australia Vic, with Commonwealth and Victorian government funding, to help councils across Victoria identify proven and successful ways to lead and support dementia-friendly initiatives across more communities in Victoria.
To participate in the survey visit www.yoursaymanningham.com.au/dementia-friendly
The survey closes 5.00 pm on 26 February 2016.

We are working with the Warrandyte Community Market Committee and other community groups to undertake tree protection works along the Yarra River Crown Land Reserve in Warrandyte.
Council commissioned an arborist’s report, which identified and prioritised trees that showed signs of stress due to vehicle and foot traffic at the monthly market. To protect these trees and ensure their longevity, logs and boulders will be placed around their root zones in November 2014 to act as natural barriers.
These works will improve the environmental amenity of the area, as well as reduce the market footprint and number of stalls. However, they will not significantly impact the Warrandyte Festival.
For more information, call Nancy Stokes on 9840 9138 (Monday and Wednesday).

“I have no doubt Ms Rehman’s knowledge, enthusiasm, drive and compassion will make her a valuable asset to the AMC,” he said.
The AMC currently consists of six members who provide advice to the Federal Government on multicultural affairs policy and programs, including how to address racism and discrimination.
