Take It Out of the Garden
Jane Annois | Helen Fuller | John Higgins (UK) | Holly Macdonald | Megan Patey | Richard Phethean (UK) | Jane Sawyer
A group exhibition examining the distinctive character of terracotta and its use in contemporary ceramic work. The exhibition features a selection of functional and decorative ware by seven artists working across a range of styles and asserts the strength of terracotta as a ground for expressive slip decoration and terra sigillata work.
Speaking as well to its history of use in horticultural and other industries, Take It Out of the Garden also explores the cultural associations that are made between terracotta and other forms, colours and purposes – like gardens – and aims to shed a new light on it as an adaptable and inherently beautiful material.
