Updated Fright

Baluk Arts | Andrew Goodman | The Ryan Sisters | Richard Young |

Updated Fright is an exhibition about those terrors we can’t shake, the tales of creatures and beings that have stayed with us from our youth, or those that have been with us collectively for aeons.

It’s an exhibition also about why we can’t help revisiting those same tales, rehashing and updating them for more modern times.

A group exhibition featuring…let’s call them renditions of monsters, creepy scenes and objects, as well as absurd but still somehow terrifying creatures, Updated Fright asks what is it that makes certain stories and ideas more potent than others and what makes them persist through generations. What prompts us to breathe life into new monsters or to resurrect long forgotten ones, and do they become more or less scary when we do? What makes a modern monster, other than a smart phone and addiction to fast fashion? Are we just as scared of the dark as our ancestors were?

So come peek behind the door, if you dare…
