Much of the eastern half of Manningham (more than 4,000ha largely east of the Mullum Mullum Creek) is designated a special ‘Green Wedge’ area for the protection of natural and rural values.

Maintaining the Green Wedge is a high priority of Council, as expressed through several policies and protections in the planning scheme. One of the highlights of 2013/14 was the adoption by Council of the Green Wedge Infrastructure Design Guide which aims to ensure sympathetic engineering works in this environmentally sensitive area.

Others highlights were in the areas of land management and the engagement of residents to participate in a range educational programs including seminars, field trips and walks aimed at protecting native vegetation and preventing the proliferation of pest related damage.

Most of Council’s Green Wedge activities are expressed as projects through the Environmental section of this website.
