Manningham City Council has welcomed the proposal released by Transdev today for a Doncaster Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service.

Manningham Mayor, Cr Michelle Kleinert, said that while Manningham remains the only Melbourne metropolitan municipality with no rail, the proposal for a BRT is the next best thing in the short to medium term to cater for already overcrowded public transport services.

“Manningham’s daily commuters are doing it tough on gridlocked roads, particularly on buses that are often bursting at the seams. It is no surprise that the lack of fully-dedicated bus priority and ever-growing traffic congestion on the road network is compromising the reliability of existing bus services.

“Manningham needs better public transport now. I really hope this proposal will be given serious consideration and receive timely support from the State Government. The BRT concept will be a first for Victoria and can provide for a suitable public transport option for our frustrated commuters that maximises what buses can offer. More importantly, it will ensure in the long term the preservation of the Eastern Freeway median for a future Doncaster Rail link.”
