Outdoor dining in Manningham

Funding for outdoor dining, use of tables and chairs on footpaths is from the Local Councils Outdoor Eating and Entertainment Package (LGA stream). Any approvals for permits will have fees waived.

There’s still fees for the display of goods or A-frame signs. You’ll receive an invoice before the issuing of a permit.

Keeping pedestrians safe

We have a duty to make sure pedestrians are safe. That’s why traders need to maintain minimum distance of clear footpath from the property line.

You can’t place objects such as moveable advertising signs, goods and street furniture against the property line or shop front.

These rules allow people using the footpath to walk through the area safely.

We’re supporting local businesses

If your business is experiencing genuine financial hardship as a result of COVID-19, you can apply for a further reduction with your permit fees. Please complete the financial hardship relief form and we’ll make an assessment with your permit application.

We’ve also launched our community relief package that supports businesses that includes:

  • reducing the costs of permits
  • having dedicated business liaison officers to help
  • free business mentoring and development programs.

You can find additional resources in our COVID-19 Support for your business page.

Larvrin & Lawrence Orthodontics in Templestowe was announced as the overall winner at this year’s Manningham Business Excellence Awards.

The glamorous awards were held at a gala dinner at the Manningham Civic Centre on the 15 November with businesses across Manningham showcasing their strengths and celebrating their points of differences in a relaxed, end of year celebration.

Manningham Council Mayor Cr Andrew Conlon said Manningham had more than 12,500 businesses, which contributed more than $3 billion to the gross regional product.

“A significant portion of these businesses are service based including retail, tourism and home based businesses,” he said.

This year thirty nine businesses were nominated and assigned a business mentor to support their application. An independent panel of judges then visited a shortlisted selection of businesses and assessed their applications.

Other Business Excellence Award winners include, Altair Restaurant, Fish & Buger Co Indulgence Medi Spa, JJ Ryan Consulting Lavrin and Lawrence Orthodontics and Zero 95 Pizza Bar.

Highly Commended awards were awarded to Fernwood Bulleen, Helloworld Travel Lower Templestowe, Organic Origins, Phillip Webb, Simply Natural Therapies and Speedy Shower Screens.

Judges’ Encouragement awards were given to Power Plant Café and Quest Doncaster.

Manningham Business provides over 40 business development events every year, giving businesses an opportunity to network, access to business resources and professional development.

Vandalism, graffiti and bill posting negatively impact our neighbourhoods and individual properties. Rules exist which prohibit, regulate and control the adverse nature of these activities.

If graffiti or street art is placed on a building or infrastructure without permission of the owner, it's considered illegal and may be removed.

Graffiti on council owned property

Graffiti on private property or non-council owned property

  • For all other private property, it is the owner's responsibility to remove the graffiti.

We will continue to maintain a zero–tolerance approach in managing graffiti with our graffiti removal maintenance program.

The maintenance program identifies and removes graffiti on all Council assets, private and commercial properties located along major arterial roads in Manningham.

Vandalism

  • You can report vandalism to Victoria Police on 131 444.

If you are holding an event and need our approval, please follow the application process

  1. Submit a request to hold an event on council land form.

Paying bonds

You might need to pay a bond if your event is on Manningham land. The amount for a bond ranges from $50 to $5,000. The bond amount will depend on the size and nature of the event.

The purpose of a bond is to cover costs if there’s damage to any:

  • infrastructure, including trees

Bonds will also cover any costs to replace gate keys or charges to clean leftover waste.

You’ll receive a full refund after a post site inspection if we determine there’s no requirement for reinstatement.

The 2013/14 Economic Development Strategy Annual Report has been endorsed by Manningham Council and highlights how Council has supported and encouraged the local business community in the past 12 months.

The Annual Report is a summary of the major work undertaken by Council in this area from 1 July 2013 to 30 June 2014 and includes the establishment of regional partnerships to create opportunities for regional economic and tourism growth.

Manningham Mayor, Cr Jim Grivokostopoulos said that the Manningham Economic Development Strategy aims to generate resilient, sustainable and vibrant community groups.

"There has been a real focus on home-based business and small to medium enterprises, which aims to position Manningham as a great place to learn, live, play and work."

Achievements outlined in the 2013/14 Economic Development Strategy Annual Report include:

  • The success of the inaugural Manningham Business Excellence Awards, which created a stronger business community and promoted Manningham as an ideal place to do business.
  • The expansion of the Business Development Program, which resulted in 55 events with nearly 1400 attendees.
  • An extra 316 Manningham businesses registered with the Manningham Business Directory, bringing the total number to 2,324.
  • The installation of new and wider footpaths and amenities to improve local shopping centres.
