Manningham Council has welcomed advice from the State Government committing funds for Public Transport Victoria (PTV) to investigate a range of new public transport initiatives in Manningham.

Minister for Public Transport, the Hon. Jacinta Allan, said the funding allocation would be to:

  • undertake a feasibility study for a proposed Doncaster Bus Rapid Transit system along the Eastern Freeway,
  • investigate bus priority measures along Thompson Road,
  • improve services to Doncaster Park and Ride, and
  • revisit the Manningham bus network changes proposed in April 2015.

Manningham Mayor, Cr Michelle Kleinert, said that Council has long advocated for improved transport from Manningham to the CBD and also internally within the municipality.

“There is significant community interest and demand for better public transport options to and from the City of Manningham and surrounding areas.”

“Manningham, along with a number of other councils on the eastern corridor, welcomes the consideration of a dedicated bus option as an interim public transport solution.”

“Council looks forward to the outcomes of the study, as we see this as a great opportunity to improve the currently constrained bus system and to permanently secure the corridor (notably the Eastern Freeway median strip) for future public transport services, such as rail,” she said.
