Media release: Have your say on revised future plans for Westfield Doncaster

Manningham Council is seeking feedback on a revised proposal that would enable future development at Westfield Doncaster.

The original proposal, which was publicly exhibited in July 2016, was revised following the acquisition of an adjoining site at 20-34 Westfield Drive by Scentre Group, as the owner and operator of Westfield.

The proposal includes the introduction of new planning controls to the Westfield Doncaster sites at 619 Doncaster Road and 20-34 Westfield Drive in Doncaster to allow an expansion of the centre. It is known as Amendment C104 to the Manningham Planning Scheme.

Some of the key changes from the original proposal include incorporating the site at 20-34 Westfield Drive, Doncaster into the future expansion, changes to traffic, vehicle and pedestrian access and relocating the ‘gateway’ tower further south within the site.

There is no change to the retail floor area (43,000sqm), commercial floor area (18,000sqm) or car parking rates from the original proposal.

The draft Development Plan, put forward by Scentre Group (Westfield), includes:

  • An additional 43,000sqm of retail floor space and 18,000sqm of commercial office space to be generally located in the northern part of the site
  • A ‘gateway’ tower with a maximum height of 10 to 14 storeys above a two level podium located on Williamsons Road
  • An enhanced and expanded bus interchange at street level, closer to Williamsons Road, which allows buses to do a loop
  • Improvements to vehicle and pedestrian access to and within the centre, including relocating the existing main vehicle entrance from Williamsons Road further north towards Westfield Drive
  • Approximately 7,575 car parking spaces to be provided on site, which will be an increase of 2,793 spaces from what is currently available
  • Improved public spaces, including increased landscaping, new paving, and a new public forecourt.

Council is inviting feedback on the revised Amendment C104 and the draft Development Plan for Westfield Doncaster. Feedback can be provided:

Community drop in session

Information on various aspects of the proposal will be on display at a community drop in session. Representatives from Scentre Group (Westfield) and Council will be available to assist with any questions about the future plans for Westfield Doncaster, including the amendment process.
